German bisque child doll marked "1902-0 // Made in Germany" with the horseshoe mark registered to Heubach.
This is a beautifully dressed, 19" doll on kid gusset jointed body with bisque lower arms. She has gorgeous paperweight eyes and her original mohair wig. She is clearly of early manufacture for the company and has beautiful facial modeling and painting considered very high quality for this maker. Her facial painting looks definitively French including outlined eye cuts, spiral-threaded paperweight eyes, painted upper and lower eyelashes, accented eye corners and nostrils, shaded lips with open mouth showing four upper teeth. Her eyebrows are thick and wispy and there is absolutely no paint wear to the face or features. Spots visible in some of the photos look like eyebrow wear, but it is glare from the lighting of the glossy brows.
Her original mohair wig is in its original set and is thick and beautiful.
Kid gusset jointed body is in excellent condition with no damage or repair. There is evidence of a factory label on the front torso, but the label is no longer there.
Her costume consists of a gorgeous matching cape and bonnet of camel wool with deep wine colored velvet accents and brass buttons. There are some small moth holes as disclosed in the photos. Under that is a cream cotton dress, eyelet trimmed slip, and matching eyelet trimmed pantaloons. She wears her original black factory stockings and shoes.
This doll comes with her First Place blue ribbon from a California doll show in 1996 and bears the previous owners name.
Condition: Excellent; no chips, cracks, or repairs. The head has been lighted and inspected and there are no hairlines or other issues. The eyes are the originals in their original setting and never slept. They are paperweight eyes.
Value note: The beautiful costume and wig alone would easily fetch the full price of this doll which is listed at a bargain price.
