Early case piece or chest of drawers, hand made circa 1820s of American Walnut with bone or ivory turned knobs. This is most certainly a one of a kind piece and it is beautifully made.
This piece has been in my personal collection for decades and I'm letting some things go since moving to my new (smaller) home since I just don't have the display space any more.
The chest is beautifully hand made with all the details of a full-sized piece from the inlaid banding on the top, to the hand-cut dovetail joinery, to the dust covers under each drawer, and the beautiful bracketed feet. I have made notations on the photos to help walk you through the details.
Measurements: 7-1/2" tall x 5-1/2" wide x 4" deep.
Note: Please, if you are intending to display the chest with your dolls or in a specifically fitted space such as a cabinet, be sure to check the measurements for fit and scale. Often times, buyers over or under estimate the size and scale and end up returning doll furniture because it doesn't fit. Though returns are accepted, of course, with the earlier more valuable pieces, the additional back and forth always opens the door to damage and with a piece this wonderful, that would be a tragedy. If you need suggestions on how to check scale, please feel free to email and tell me your space requirements and I'll be happy to help.
Condition: Excellent with only two notes to bring to your attention. The top knob has the outer ring missing and the bottom knob has a chip off the bottom. One rear bracket leg has a repair done so well that I suspect it was made that way, possibly due to a shorter piece of wood on that side. There is no splintering and it is a perfect match both in finish and grain.
