Pre-Civil War China Doll Head Medium Size

Circa early 1860s 4-1/2" china shoulder head with center parted hairstyle with two large raised curls on either wide of her wide forehead and rows of curls encircling the head.

Made by the A. W. Fr. Kister Porcelain Factory, the modeling is especially fine with that "first out of the mold" crispness in the features that collectors seek out.

Facial painting includes large shaded blue eyes, black lash lines, red lid lines, accented nostrils, lips with low upper lip peaks and a wide horizontal separating line with upturned corners; the lower lips have a horizontal, oval-shape. Her cheeks are lightly blushed.

Her shoulder plate is deep and sloping and has arm indications and bust modeling.

The early pressed in the mold head shows finger marks on the inside of the shoulder plate, where the porcelain mixture was pressed into the mold vs pouring.

Condition: An old hairline from the left front sew hole which fades out to just under the chin.
