Offered for sale is this absolutely wonderful antique miniature whiskey jug. This is is uniquely square and measures 4 inches tall and the base is 2 3/4 inches wide. This jug is in perfect condition with no breaks, cracks or chips. The Dongan Club lettering is a little faded, but is very legible. The name on this jug is "Dongan Club". Dongan Club Whiskey was made by the Columbia Wine & Liquor Co. Their distillery was located in Waterloo, NY. The business was established by John Tracey and by 1890 was being run by Charles Tracey, President & Treasurer. Brand names used by this company include: "Beaver Rye", "Columbia Rye", "Dongan Club", "Evermore", and "Seneca Chief." Between 1838 and 1890 Columbia Wine & Liquor produced a number of give-away items to advertise their various brands, which included miniature jugs, shot glasses and tip trays for Beaver Rye and Dongan Club Rye. Dongan Club the name sake on this miniature jug was named for an organization that honored a former colonial governor of New York, a Catholic, Thomas Dongan.This is a fascinating piece of history that is a perfect addition to your collection.
