This is a period refinished early chest that probably dates from the 1850s. Most likely this chest was an empire flame mahogany chest. During the 1960s it was popular to strip the veneer off and bring it down to the pumpkin pine, then refinish them to exactly this color as seen. This chest has the big crack on the side, which is always the case on these old plank sided chests, as well as pillar posts in the front, round knobs, hand-cut dovetail chamfered drawers and chamfered back. It shows all the old square nails on the top, and everything a veneered piece would show because it's been hidden by the veneer. It measures 43 inches wide, 19 inches deep, and 35 inches high. It's a nice early country chest. Please take a look around the rest of the site, and remember that we give a generous freight discount when you purchase multiple items.
