Large Pair of Circa 1890 Sulfide Picture Nails or Drapery Tie-Backs

A wonderful, large pair of Victorian picture nails or drapery tie-backs with silver, sulfide decoration encased in clear glass and set in embossed brass mounts with iron posts.

The tie-backs measure 2 1/2" in diameter by 5 3/8" long. Both are in very, very good condition. There is no deterioration to the sulfide decoration and there are no chips, cracks or dents. One tie-back has a very shallow flake in the glass along the side that is felt more than seen.

These were generally used to hang pictures with velvet ribbons from wall mouldings or moldings. This pair are quite a bit larger than normal so they may have been used as drapery tiebacks or for a large pair of portraits.
