A wonderful pair of late Victorian brass push-up candlesticks with incised concentric circle, 'bulls eye', design, canted base and impressed horseshoe and 'Good Luck'.
This handsome pair stand an impressive 12 3/8" high and measure 4 3/4" across the base. Both candlesticks are in very good undamaged condition. There are no dents, deep scratches or repairs. Both have their original push-ups and ejector rods and both are in working order. They are a heavy gauge brass...weighing a substantial 2.25 pounds each! The brass has a lovely mellow patina.
Although unmarked, it is widely believed these were manufactured by James Clew & Sons, Birmingham and were a popular wedding gift in the last quarter of the 19th century.
