A beautiful hand-blown, twist-form, Mont Joye vase manufactured by one of the premiere 19th century French glass houses, Legras & Cie. As is characteristic of Mont Joye pieces, this cranberry shaded to clear vase has a lavish hand-enameled floral decoration with rich gilt outlining and highlighting. The glass has a satin finish. The clear glass portion has a lovely soft iridescence.
This fine piece stands a stately 12" high and measures 4 1/2" across the base at its widest point. The vase is in very good undamaged condition. There are no chips, cracks or repairs. The intricate, heavy enameling is not chipped and still has a wonderful bright lustre. There is some light, minor gilt loss only. The bottom has a ground pontil.
I would date this piece to the late 19th/early 20th century. Truly a wonderful example of the exceptional art glass being produced around the turn of the 19th century.
Fine antique porcelains, glass, silver, decorative accessories and perhaps a surprise or two!
