This exceptional four volume set contains text written by Jacques Marquet De Norvins. It was published in Paris, by Ambroise Depont Cie. in 1827.
This important French text has been augmented by 23 important battle and epic scenes (by Couche fils).
There are 22 color maps (some fold-out) (engraved by Couche fils, Arnoul, A.M. Perrot and Le Jeune).
Volume IV contains a portrait of Napoleon in 1815 with his signature (facsimile) underneath, and a portion of a copy of a letter written by Napoleon on July 14, 1815 to the Prince Regent of England. Underneath the letter excerpt is a handwritten (facsimile) note by Le Baron Gourgaud, General of the Artillery and Aide de Camp to the Emperor, indicating that the letter above is in the hand of the Emperor Napoleon.
There are eleven portraits (including Napoleon and Josephine) and one frontispiece engraving.
The four volumes, (each measuring 8 1/2 in. x 5 1/4 in.) are bound in nineteenth century half red morocco. The spines have each have an individually tooled and blind embossed eagle and crown at the head and foot (symbol for the Emperor). There are raised bands along the spines forming compartments filled with a gilt medallion, gilt filets and flowers. The endpapers are marbled.The bindings are in very good and sound condition, with only light wear to the marbled board edges.
This is a fine and complete nineteenth century edition documenting the reign of Napoleon.
