This is an historically important text, illustrated by engravings of four great leaders; Napoleon, Nelson, Prince de Murat and Pitt. It was published in Leipsic for the year 1808.
The hard paper binding is a handsome, in a French blue with large engraved design plaques. There is a central cherub on each cover board, surrounded by a wide frame of grape leaves and vines. The page edges of the binding are gilded. It measures: 4" x 2 3/8" x 1/2".
In addition to the four engraved portraits there are four Monument/Historical engravings: Observatoire in Paris, Observatoire in St Petersbourg, Carlsbad and Gaeta. There are also four full page theatrical scenes.
The French text includes timeline for 1806 and 1807, measures and distances. Published in Leipsic, 1808. It includes a fold out genealogical chart of the House of Saxe. Lunar, Russian, Reform and Georgian calender tables are found for each month. There is a "sychronistique" table of Soverains of Germany, England, Denmark, Spain, Prussia, Russia, France and Sweden. (from 768 to 1804). There are small histories on the four great leaders.
This is a fabulous title for military collectors or history enthusiasts. It presents a host of information in a small pocket-sized format. It remains in very good antique condition. There is light wear to the board edges where the color has returned to ivory but otherwise it is in sound and brilliant and amazing condition in consideration of it's over 200 year old age!
It is a fine, rare example of an early Almanac.
