Demantoid is one of the most rare of gemstones. It is a garnet, andradite mineral. It is found in shades of green from yellowish green to brownish green.
The stones are generally small, 1 carat or less. Stones of 2 carats are considered rare and stones of 3 or more are considered very rare.
Demantoid garnets were first discovered in Russia and many have "horsetail inclusions" that distinguish Russian demantoids from others. Generally these inclusions increase the value of the stone. The inclusions are actually golden brown threads of a form of asbestos that run through the stone. Many times high quality demantoids are found with tsavorite garnets and some gems combine both extremely rare garnets.
This stone has been tested by the GIA Lab in New York. The report can be seen in photo. I did not have the source identified because of the expense but it is probably from Mali or Kenya.
This 14K yellow gold ring has a natural demantoid garnet that is quite large, 11.40mm x 8.65mm x 6.2mm and weighs about 4.77 carats. The stone is heavily included yet translucent.
The ring is size 6 3/4 and is hallmarked "14K 585" and marked "T.Y.L.." It is in excellent vintage condition.

MESSAGE ABOUT LAY-A-WAY SERVICES:
I offer lay-a-way on all items. My lay-a-way terms and procedures are as follows:
I do not charge any fees for the service. I divide the total purchase into 4 parts. The down payment (Payment 1 of 4) is due at the time of purchase. I will send an invoice through PayPal even if you opt to pay with check or money order. Payment 2 of 4 is due 30 days later. Payment 3 of 4 follows in another 30 days, and the final payment (4 of 4) is due in another 30 days. The item is paid in full in 3 months.
I am flexible with start dates so if you have a particular time of the month that you prefer to pay, I can send the invoice on that date. I can set up the lay-a-way with 3 payments if you prefer. With purchases over $1000, I will consider setting up 5 or 6 payments. Items purchased on lay-a-way will be shipped immediately after the final payment is paid and cleared.
Lay-a way returns are for store credit or exchange.
