Vintage Old Culinary Cookbook 1939 Black Americana Dixie Memorabilia
Thru out the book are black Americana illustrations of Blacks Americans or Negroes as viewed during that era. Many depictions have a poetry verse of saying printed along side in a southern dialect. Many of the illustrations show black Mammys at work and field hands in the field.
The following text is taken from the book -
The very name southern cookery seems to conjure uo the visions of the old Mammy, head tied with red bandanna... a wizard in the art of creating savory appetizing dishes from plain every day ingredients... All your life you have heard of the traditionally famous dishes of the South land. No cooking seems more famous or synonymous with quality and deliciousness than Southern cooking...
The book is enclosed in wood book covers held together with green plastic binders. The plastic has become brittle and you must open the book gently. On the front of the book the wood is engraved with a black southern Mammy holding a cooked turkey.
Highly collectable for so many reasons. This book is for those who collect black memorabilia, historical ephemera and documents and great old recipes never found any more.
