This is an incredible suit, custom made for Billy Gibbons by the legendary, Nudie Cohn, The Rodeo Tailor.
I found a picture of Billy wearing this suit in the 70's. He looked fantastic. I put the jacket on and it makes me look fantastic, no easy task at this point in my life. People actually gasp when I wear the jacket, not just because I'm covered in rhinestones, I'm always covered in rhinestones, but this time, I look really, REALLY good. It is so beautifully tailored, even a senior citizen can shine.
It has all the authentic labels, written and printed. I don't know who is going to fit into those pants, waist 32" inseam 34". The jacket is a work of art, narrow waist, chest approximately 38". Billy took very good care of this. Flaws to mention are all pictured, a hole in the lining, over the shoulder where the guitar strap would be, some wear and marks by the hem of the pants and the waist band of the pants. I have had the pants cleaned, the jacket doesn't need it.
The question is, how did this end up in a basement on the south side of Chicago? That's where it surfaced and I am selling it for the friend who acquired it. I may have to write Billy and ask him.
Keith Richards' Nudie suit of the same era and color sold for $21,875 at auction a couple years ago. One of Roy Rodgers suits sold for $16,500, many years ago.
A gift for the Texas Billionaire that has everything!
A little about Billy Gibbons:
William Frederick "Billy" Gibbons (born December 16, 1949) is an American musician, actor and car customizer, best known as the guitarist of the Texas blues-rock band ZZ Top. He is also the lead singer and composer for many of the band's songs. Gibbons is known for playing his Gretsch Billy Bo guitar and his famous 1959 Gibson Les Paul guitar known as Pearly Gates. Gibbons has a bass vocal range, spanning E♭1 to E♭5, one of the widest ranges in rock. He is noted for using an old five peso Mexican coin as a guitar plectrum and use of pinch harmonics in his solos.
Gibbons is a familiar fixture at the Sunset Marquis Hotel, producing studio sessions in the NightBird Recording Studio with actors Billy Bob Thornton and J. P. Shellnutt, along with musicians Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Jed Leiber, Joe "Backbeat" Fazzio, and Dwight Yoakam. Gibbons is also well known for his authentic preparations of Texas-style barbecue and Mexican cuisine and is frequently a guest chef around Hollywood, California serving his famous "Renegade Guacamole".
In May 2011, it was announced that Gibbons was named as the 2012 Texas State Musician by the Texas Commission on the Arts. You may also know him as Angela's father on the TV show "Bones".
A little about Nudie Cohen:
Nudie Cohn built an impeccable reputation as one of the most sought after clothiers in Los Angeles. Nudie the Rodeo Tailor tells the unbelievable story of Nudie and Bobbie Cohn and the legendary fashion legacy they created.
Nudie became the first person to incorporate rhinestones into cowboy dress. It was the $10,000 gold suit that Nudie made for Elvis Presley that rocketed Nudie to stardom and cemented his status in fashion history; Nudie would go on to design clothing for Dale Evans and Roy Rogers, Elton John, Gene Autry, John Wayne, John Lennon, Steve McQueen, Johnny Cash, Eric Clapton, and the rock groups America and the Flying Burrito Brothers. Nudie blurred the boundaries of fashion and cast a far-reaching influence over the clothing worn in country music, rock music, movies, and television.
