Sphinx Pink, Revlon Nail Enamel, 1962, Cleopatra, Box Too!

This brings the early 60's rushing back. I had forgotten about putting the bottle together, you had to screw that high finial into the cap of the bottle.

Who saves the box? I admit I still have my Yardley Slicker lipstick from 1964, but I don't have the box.

It's all there! From one of the most significant cosmetic campaigns in history. The Trivette Collection. The lipstick and nail enamel came out right before the release of the film, Cleopatra, starring Elizabeth Taylor.

The box is in near mint condition, I see one tiny wisp of polish on the outside. (see close up picture) It's still nice and shiny! It stands 3 & 1/2" tall and the polish, top and stir stick are all inside. The graphics are 60's amazing!

The polish is still liquid! The "frost" has settled to the bottom and I haven't shaken it. I don't have the magazine ads from the campaign, I just added the pictures because I like them.

Elizabeth Taylor and the Egyptian Craze. The level of stardom that she achieved in Cleopatra had never been seen before and will never be seen again.

Advertising Sphinx Pink as "the look that shook the pyramids now shakes today's fashion world". In his book "Fire & Ice: The Story of Charles Revson – the Man Who Built the Revlon Empire", Andrew Tobias shared this story from model Suzy Parker:

`As time went on it became really very funny. They did this particular Cleopatra ad and shot it with ten or twelve different black-haired girls, at great expense. It wasn't the photographer's fault; it was just that they couldn't choose the model. So they had to keep paying Avedon for the pictures. It was a disaster. Finally, at the last minute, they brought me in and put a black wig on me and they never let Revson know it was me in the ad. He never realized.'
