American sterling silver berry or casserole serving spoon in a Gilded Age, ornate, Arabesque style pattern, retailed by Hart Brothers of Brooklyn, New York, c.1875. The front of the handle has a period script monogram: L
This ornate pattern has the look of a Joseph Seymour or Wood and Hughes design, but we cannot pin it down to a specific maker. The deep, scalloped shoulder gilt engraved bowl adds to the appeal of this wonderful serving spoon.
Weighing 64 grams or 2 ozs. Troy, this special spoon is 8 3/4" long.
Monogrammed as described above, the soft, warm, original finish is present, with no buffing or machine polishing.
The excellent original condition, with only light wear to the original gilding on the bowl and clear detail, with no removals, repairs or alterations, make this an especially attractive offering.
