Fine example of a mask from the EKPO Society in Africa. Tribe is IBIBIO according to my African vendor. I collect African Art because of its mysterious beauty and Ancient background along with the fact that these artists never heard of an MFA and probably never went to art school. This mask appears to have been around for some time and shows it is certainly not a new reproduction and my vendor says is from the 1950's +. I will leave that up to experts . It has been in my collection for some time and is being deaccessioned for new additions. I believe African art is beginning a new era of strong collecting because of turmoil in Africa and changing customs there. Studying this art form is fascinating and lots of experts express their opinions. The British have been collecting African art since the 1700's and these old pieces are now worth hundreds of thousands of dollars with proper provenance.
