Portrait oil/canvas of a gentleman

Very well executed oil on canvas of a gentleman [ 18th century attire ] in a heavy Gilt frame. This painting was purchased from an Attorney in Wisconsin years ago and has been in my house as a decorative piece. The original owner bought the piece to use as a furnishing piece also and had no information about the figure or the provenance. It appears to be old and has a few faults [ checks photos ] and a patch on the back of the canvas. Close examination shows some very minor crazing in the surface of the oil. The frame is elegant and I don't think original to the oil ( Just a guess ] however it is very heavy and of top quality. The original owner says he bought it as we find it today and its been in my house for 40 years. Just a mystery item but attractive. approx measurements..24 X 32 inches overall...opening 14 3/4 X 21 3/4 inches..canvas 13 X 20...Weight 12 lbs.
