Wonderful unmarked snowbaby riding a polar bear. I believe this to be a more scarce version of this character, as all the polar bear's feet are separate, and the snowbaby is fully straddling the back of the bear.
Based on the bear, this figure is presumed to be German, as the Japanese versions displayed cruder molding. Snowbabies were made in Germany from te mid 1800's up to the 1930's. Japanese versions were made starting in the 1930's. These little figurines were the inspiration for the Department 56 Snowbabies so prevalent today.
I love these little guys, but this one is a duplicate, so I have decided to let him go from my personal collection. I have included a photo of the bears front paw, which is irregularly shaped. I cannot determine if this is damage, or original to the piece, but I believe in full disclosure...Also, if you look at the back side view of the bear, you can see a manufacturing split in his neck. This is not damage, but a manufacturing flaw.
