29 x 28 cm (11 ½ x10 ½ inches, to matte) watercolor and pastel on board signed lower left, framed under glass to an overall size of 57 x 47 cm (22 ½ x 18 ½ inches). The board has a large vertical crack through the center. Some conservation work has been done, with special care given to the face area. The matte is soiled and should be changed for a better color fit.
This glamor portrait was probably painted by well-listed illustrator Alex Luders for an entertainment magazine cover in the 1930s. The `woman with a hat' was a staple of covers and post cards for decades. This one is particularly tasteful and is a marvelous period piece, in spite of its somewhat faded colors and the unfortunate crack. A better matte would give it more life: see our suggestion.
