American Art - Walter Prochownik: Siblings - Vintage Oil Painting

42" x 30" (107 x 76 cm) oil on canvas, framed in a modern floating frame to an overall size of 43" x 31" (109 x 78 cm), signed upper left.

This magical minimalist evocation of two children walking side by side against a (Buffalo, NY) cityscape is part of Prochownik's important "portrait series" (1966-1975).

Walter Prochownik (1923-2000) of Buffalo, NY, may be best known for You the People, a large 1974 mural in the lobby of the Erie County Building. His work can be seen in many public buildings and in three museums at least: the Buffalo Fine Arts Academy's Albright-Knox Art Gallery, the Ball State University Museum of Art in Indiana, and the Burchfield Penney Art Center at Buffalo State College.

This sale includes the Catalog of "Walter Prochownik: In Retrospect, 1965 – 1995", from the 2004 exhibition at the UB (University at Buffalo) Anderson Gallery, with essays by curators Kristin E. M. Reimer and Marie Françoise Hutchinson (last picture).
