Locke & Co. Potpourri Vase

Locke & Co. Potpourri Vase

An open mouth vase with 6 reticulated ivy leaf panels. Made by Locke & Co. circa 1898 - 1902. Standing 4 1/2" tall and 3 1/4" in diameter. The top, base and 6 panels are trimmed in gold gilt. This wonderful little vase is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or crazing.

A Little History: Locke & Co. was founded in 1896 by Edward Locke, who established a factory at the Shrub Hill, in Worcester, England. The pottery produced porcelain wares similar to some of those made by Royal Worcester at the time. Quite probably Locke & Co benefited from the high profile and reputation of Royal Worcester.

What is certain is that in 1902, Royal Worcester gained a high court injunction preventing Locke & Co. from using the title "Worcester" on its wares. This contributed to the Locke & Co. decline and the company eventually closed in 1904.
