Portuguese Hand Painted Tile Scenic Plaque, Man Hunting Stag
This Portuguese tile plaque is composed of 12- 5" X 5" tin glazed terra cotta tiles, creating a plaque 20" long, and 15" wide. The scene, hand painted in several colors, shows a man, carrying a long gun, and his dog, trailing a large, leaping stag in front of them. The hunting scene is surrounded, enclosed by a framework, highlighting the art. The work is signed at lower left "URO, COMBRA, PORTUGAL, StCX111, GA". The piece had incurred some damage- a 7/8" wide strip is missing from the lower right corner tile, and 3 small chips are missing from top left. Damage is visible is close up photos. If framed, this damage could be mitigated with judicious use of grout.
