This large, 29 1/2"x22"x14" basket was designed to hold, and haul, farm produce during harvest. Three steel strips form the foundation, starting at the top of one end traveling the length of the base, and climbing the other side in a wide U form. The sides are built the same way using two strips of bent wood splines. A dark brown leather? is used as the horizontal woven material. The top is a double layer of bent wood to hold the whole thing together. The basket is riveted to hold the sides together and maintain its shape. The bottom has three wooden runners, making the full basket easier to pull, and each side has a heavy canvas handle. This piece has a few cracks, and breaks do to heavy usage. It is still structurally sound, and would make a fantastic display piece.
