Vintage Miniature Murano Glass Vase, w/ Gilding & Applique-Circa 1920-1930
Using emerald green hand-blown glass, generously trimmed in gilded gold, hand painted decorations of a precisely placed sprig of blossoming white flowers with one burgeoning bud erupt from a single plant. The `appliqué en relief' hand-painted enamel floral decorations wrap around two-thirds of the vase's circumference in a lush, elegant design.
This truly special `tiny vase' has an arresting appearance that exemplifies the visual dynamic of miniaturization. It is a 'little giant,' having a presence that transcends its actual proportions. It appears to be a large elegant vase, shrunken down into 7.5 cm (3") of an impressive item. With all its delicate enamel, the white flower petals remain intact. There are no scratches, chips, or flaws except for the normal wear of gold gild around the friction surfaces. The base and upper lip show the worn off gilding in the accompanying pictures.
This style of hand-blown European glass remains a good collecting value in today's market. Collectors have been slow to rediscover this remarkable trend from early 20th century glass making in which the superb workmanship and high standards of quality of the Venetians' albeit late entry into this style's production is incorporated. Priced reasonably to sell, this spectacular mini-vase has an uncanny charisma, characterized as an iconic example of miniaturization, proving good things come in small packages.
