Sterling Silver Tibetan Dragon Earrings w/ Faceted Amethyst-Circa 1962
Their slick shinny heads, sparkles from the high-gloss, polished silver body area that is plated with gold. Additional protection is afforded by the beautiful; two cut oval, purple amethyst stones, which adorn the dragon's head as crowns and atop the ear stud. Their outrageous 3-D, long curling tails, wrap around, under and over themselves and the dragon's head to end in a tapered ends. The tail's textured constructions, made from separate strands of silver being hammered together, simulate a serpent's scaly skin. The textured, three-dimensional designs, forms a large circular loop, concluding in ever finer and smaller curls, finally attaching the top stone's setting. The superior craftsmanship requires for fashioning the dragon's detailed head, needs a good magnifying glass to be appreciated. These are the most remarkable Tibetan earrings we have ever come across in our many years of collecting Buddhist relicts. Obtained during the 1970's from the first wave of Tibetan refugees, made up of mostly spiritual leaders, exiting Northern India's communities, generously provided them after Chinese annexation as the Dali Lama fled Southward, down from the Himalayas. The results of these geopolitical circumstances make these earrings a rare and valued find.
