This all original, handmade doll stands almost 14" tall. I estimate it was made sometime between the 1890s and 1930s. Head is stuffed stockinette with stitched 2-tone mouth, stiched nostrils & brows, button eyes and hoop earrings. The outfit is great! The bandana has sewn on diamond shapes and dot accents. The organdy apron has a red stripe sewn on. The polka dot dress gathers at the arm and is actually 2 pieces--a top and a skirt. I have not removed the clothes completely. Under the skirt is a cotton slip. All the clothes are in very good condition with only light overall soil and some fading. The chest is stuffed to appear full-figured and the arms are stubby stockinette. The body or base of the doll is an old bottle. The bottle is filled with sand (doll pretty heavy) and is amber color glass. Since the stockinette is torn over the base of the bottle, I can see raised numbers and a maker mark on the bottom. On the side of the bottle near the base is '4/5 Quart' in raised letters. At first I thought perhaps it was made from a milk bottle, but know think it may have been a whiskey bottle. I guess you use whatever is available to make a doll! Lots of photos to enjoy! Note that the face does look more uniform brown color in person and the camera flash lightens it. Great doll!
