This offering is of a marked Goebel Jenny Lind porcelain half-doll or pin cushion doll done with her arms away from her body and delicate sculpted hands. She is in excellent, used condition with no damage! This doll is lovely—with her pink tinted nude body from the waist up and a white porcelain lower section with four holes with which to sew her to whatever base you would like. Her head is beautifully modeled with ringlets in her center-parted hair, a top-knot as well as pink roses and a blue ribbon and bow. Her face is also very well painted with soft and delicate detail. The hands on the item are completely intact with no damage or repair which is unusual in a doll of this type and age. She dates from about the 1910-20 period. The doll measures as follows: Height-5 1/4", Width at the elbows-2 1/4", Diameter at base-1 7/8", Depth Front-to-Back 2 3/8". We ha ve photographed several marks. The W. Goebel incised, underglaze mark on the back of the lower section can be seen with the magnifier view of the back of the piece. It is the one used from 1914-21. For those who may not know, Jenny Lind was an opera star in the 19th century who was known as "The Swedish Nightingale" and was a worldwide sensation in her time. She toured the world to sensational reviews and was adored by fans, much like Sarah Brightman today. This is about the best you can get in half-dolls—a top-notch maker and beautiful sculpting and painting and perfect condition. It doesn't get better than this. A perfect start or addition to any doll collection.
