This beautiful art glass paperweight is signed by David Lotton, one of a family of glass master artists whose work is in museums in both the U.S. and on other continents as well. This piece, signed "Flora" and dated 1978 is from his early days as a professional glass artisan and it is stunningly beautiful with cobalt blue and white flowers, green leaves and twining cobalt blue threads and an iridescent surface. Even though the surface is iridescent, the paperweight is essentially clear crystal so the flowers and leaves and tendrils seem to float on the glass. As you can see in the photograph of the bottom of the weight it has the name "Flora", David Lotton's signature and the date of 1978 engraved on the rim. Inside the pontil mark in the center are the numbers 14/300 indicating that this paperweight was number 14 of only 300 ever made. The piece measures 2 7/8" in diameter and 1 ½" high. It is in excellent used condition with no damage. What a lovely start or addition to a collection of American artist-made paperweights!
