Mikasa Crystal Bowl Etched w/Plum Blossoms, Vintage 1960’s

This exceptionally elegant crystal bowl is a consignment from a lady who purchased it in Philadelphia in the 1960's. It was retailed under the Mikasa brand name and may well have been made by Hoya Crystal of Japan. In Mikasa's earlier days they wholesaled a fair amount of Hoya which is top top quality crystal as well as engraving work. In any event, the bowl has oriental prunus or plum blossoms and branches engraved and frosted on about half to two thirds of the surface. The design even extends down onto the bottom foot/rim (see 5th photo). The crystal quality is superb and it rings like a bell when tapped lightly. The piece measures 9 3/8" across the top and 5" tall. The rim measures ¼" thick and the base/foot diameter is 4 ¼". It is in excellent used condition with no chips or cracks but normal fine scratching on the base. There is a bubble in the glass (see photo w/pencil point for size) which is not uncommon in large crystal pieces. In researching this item I have not seen anything like it online. I used to retail Mikasa crystal when I ran my own gift business in the mid 1980's to 2000 and I am familiar with their products. In all my years carrying their line I never saw anything like this piece. It is truly beautiful and elegant and of a size that it would be quite useful as a serving piece or just to display in your home.
