We recently acquired these lovely little Meiji period mixed metal mounts from a Virginia estate which had a large number of beautiful Asian items. This little pair is made of 18K yellow gold (acid tested) and bronze. Although a pair, each piece is sculpted differently with playing/fighting foo dogs. Whoever sculpted them knew play-fighting small dogs well as the poses are perfectly believable. The detail of the faces and the musculature are quite good, especially on such small items. Each mount measures 1 3/16" wide by 3/4" high. Each mount is pierced in 2 places for attachment to whatever, possibly jade or wood or ? I tried to photograph the backs of the mounts so that you can see the complexity of the metal casting which was done to make them. These are really tiny mixed metal works of art in our opinion. You can almost hear the foo dogs growling!
