ca 30's 40's Absolutely Gorgeous Pagoda Parasol with Dots and Stars
From the Latin "to block the sun", in addition to being a highly functional object, the parasol became a fashion statement all its own. Their handles and shades were made with all manner of materials and every decade boasts a unique style.
This exquisite parasol dates from the 1930's to the early 1940's; it's really one of our favorites.
The shade is so vibrant and unique; it boasts a beautiful red and orange ombré and is covered with a dazzling dot and star motif.
It's the pagoda shape that really takes the cake; this style was made popular in the early 1930's.
A small matching ribbon on the side of the shade ends in a brass button and loop closure and keeps the pleats in order when the parasol is closed.
The finial (or "ferrule as they are known) at the top of the parasol is wooden and topped with a small brass cap. The shaft is also made of rich coffee-colored wood. The handle is a beautiful, complementary colored Lucite.
This handle is so fabulous; the bright orange Lucite complements the colors of the shade perfectly.
A decorative pierced metal color in a deep gold color separates it from the shaft and a brass curb chain allows for easy carrying.
All of the stretchers, ribs, runner, and springs are brass and, though they show a fair amount of wear and darkening, still function beautifully; the parasol stays very securely open.
The wooden shaft shows some aesthetic wear as does the handle but the parasol remains in good condition overall, especially considering its age.
So beautiful. So romantic. What's not to love about the luxurious elegance of a vintage parasol?
