RARE and Beautiful Antique Porcelain Pairpoint "Poppies" Humidor

We are thrilled to present this rare porcelain humidor from the famed American company, Pairpoint.

Having specialized in glass since their inception in 1837, the Pairpoint Company made a small number of porcelain objects during the late 19th century into the early 20th century, making this piece a truly rare and highly-collectible find.

This exceptional antique humidor has excellent size and is characterized by sensational hand-painted decoration.

Beautifully rendered poppies in white and red pervade the motif, resting on a serene background on mint-green.

Textural leaves and vines swirl languidly around the sides and top while the flowers are embellished with colorful stamens and pollen.

As you can see, the hand-painted decoration shows only a few areas of very minor wear and remains in outstanding condition overall.

The top and bottom of the humidor feature an encircling brass frame which has been ornamented with a beaded border.

Another strip of brass embraces the lower edge of the lid and boasts an elegant "twisted" motif.

The humidor stands on four stylized "claw"-feet. These brass elements show a fair amount of darkening and loss to the original gold-colored finish.

You will find a reservoir on the underside of the lid which includes a pierced lid.

This is where sponges with moistening agents are kept to prevent the tobacco from drying out.

This piece is also made of brass and shows some darkening.

The brass frame on the underside of the humidor exhibits some stamped hallmark including the classic Pairpoint "diamond" logo, an inscription reading "Pairpoint Mfg. Co, New Bedford, Mass", and the style number "2769".

Finally, a hand-painted mark on the exposed porcelain on the underside of the humidor reads "2769" over "840". "2769" is the style number while "840" is likely the number for the decoration.

Despite the darkening and slight finish loss that pervades the brass components, this exquisite Pairpoint humidor remains in good antique condition overall.

Measurements: Humidor is 7 1/2" tall, Base is 5 3/8" in diameter Weight: 3 lbs., 4 oz.
