This romantic Edwardian scent bottle is made of porcelain and features beautiful painted decoration and a sterling silver lid.
The bottle, which dates from 1903, has a classic, round shape and features a threaded neck to which the little sterling lid secure screws.
You will find a number of hallmarks impressed upon the silver lid, the first of which reads "DL".
We believe this to be the mark of renowned British smiths Schindler & Company.
The initial mark is followed by an anchor (the mark of the Birmingham Assay Office), the standard English lion-passant, and finally, the lower-case letter "d".
This date-mark corresponds to 1903 as the year of manufacture.
As you can see, the porcelain bottle is decorated with a lovely hand-painted and transferware scene reminiscent of Watteau of Fragonard's romantic Rococo works.
The scene depicts two lovers resting in the woods while the female character plays the alluring gamine with her lace fan.
Remarkably, the surrounding landscape continues around to the back of the bottle creating a very complete look.
Though the bottle and sterling cap show only the slightest amount of wear and a few tiny flea-bite scratches, it remains in excellent antique condition overall.
