This gorgeous antique lorgnette is a beautiful example of old-world style and features exceptionally elegant details.
As you can see, this lorgnette features "folding" frames that overlap one another.
When a tiny lever on the handle is depressed, the lenses snap open into a more recognizable "eyeglasses" shape.
The frames are rendered in sterling silver with beautiful 14 karat gold vermeil finish.
The piece has been professionally tested to ensure the purity of the gold and silver.
An unidentified hallmark is stamped into the underside of the bridge of the frames.
You will notice that the handle is made from genuine tortoise shell and has a nice degree of transparency along with rich colors brown and amber colors.
A long ribbon of black satin grosgrain hangs from a loop at the bottom of the handle, allowing one to wear the lorgnette on the neck.
A slide with elegant scrolling and pierced decoration on the grosgrain ribbon will make it simple to adjust the length of the loop at one end.
The slide is also vermeiled with 14 karat gold and has been professionally tested.
The tortoiseshell handle shows a fair amount of wear including some surface scratching while the metal frames exhibit some expected darkening.
The glass lenses are in fantastic condition showing only one or two minuscule flea-bite scratches.
Overall, this exquisite lorgnette remains in good antique condition.
