This opulent, highly-collectible Edwardian necklace is a striking example of the "paste" rhinestone jewelry that gained so much popularity in the 1700's through the late 1900's.
We are thrilled to say that this piece is from the inimitable American jewelry manufacturing team Chapin and Hollister.
Founded in Providence, Rhode Island in 1898, the company's exceptional jewelry has become increasingly difficult to find in recent years as production was ceased in 1922.
This extraordinary pendant hangs on a bright 10 karat solid yellow gold chain.
As you can see, the chain has a classic, elegant look pairing straight bars with small lengths of circular links.
The pendant features 10 karat gold-plate.
The centerpiece is characterized by a scrolling quatrefoil shape with a brilliant ice-blue paste rhinestone at the center and smaller colorless stones above, below, and on the sides. Each stone is securely embraced by a low bezel-setting.
A large tear-drop shaped stone in the same cool shade of wintry-blue dangles from a straight bar at the bottom of the center piece.
It is set in an open bezel which allows each facet to catch the light.
Unlike most paste jewelry, these stones are not foiled and therefore have an exceptional degree of translucence and refract surrounding light beautifully.
As you can see, the delicate "bar and link" chain attaches to the centerpiece at two points on the top.
It joins with a spring-ring clasp which features the Chapin and Hollister hallmark, "C&H Co."
While the pendant shows only a tiny amount of verdigris on the reverse and the paste stone exhibit one or two immaterial flea-bite scratches, this breathtaking necklace remains in excellent antique condition.
This is an enchanting necklace that you'll love to wear and display with pride.
