RESERVED - Gorgeous Art Nouveau Wallace & Sons Sterling Silver "Nut" Spoon 22 gms.
Dating from 1909, it is a beautiful example of the style that pervaded during the latter years of the Art Nouveau era.
The nut spoon was produced by R. Wallace & Sons Manufacturing Company, who were originally located in Wallingford, Connecticut.
Now, the company known simply as Wallace Silversmiths, continues to produce elegant sterling flatware with almost 180 years of experience.
As you can see, the spoon features a dazzling Nouveau-inspired floral design that encompasses the bowl as well as the handle.
The bowl features wide piercings which are both a functional and integral part of the design.
Both flowers and leaves are sumptuous and languid, complementing the surrounding foliate scrolling.
There are several maker's mark cast on the reverse of the handle. The first of these reads "80"; this is a pattern number and dates from 1909.
Next, you will see the mark "RW&S" for "R. Wallace & Sons" and finally, "Sterling".
The piece has been professionally tested to ensure the purity of the silver.
A very dark, rich patina covers the spoon, giving the stamped design beautiful dimension.
We leave polishing to the buyer; this beauty is sure to polish to a nice, bright finish.
Overall, the spoon remains in very good antique condition.
