Vintage Limoges Transferware Porcelain Miniature 17-Piece Tea Set

We are thrilled to offer this extraordinary 17-piece set of Fontanille and Marraud Limoges Porcelain miniatures.

The name "Limoges" has been synonymous with high-quality, highly-collectible porcelain for over 200 years.

"Limoges" is used to refer to the hard-paste porcelain that is manufactured in or around the city of Limoges, France, but does not necessarily refer to a particular maker.

Martial Fontanille founded his first porcelain decorating factory in Limoges in 1928.

By 1938, he had hired his son-in-law, Maurice Marraud, and the company had begun to specialize in blue under-glazed porcelain.

Fontanille & Marraud produced many Limoges blanks but continued to decorate porcelain with transfers.

This incredible little set is a beautiful example of the company's timeless style.

The style, often called "transferware" was developed in the min-18th-century in England.

The set consists of 1 goblet, 2 water pitchers, 2 footed pitchers, 1 creamer, 1 sugar bowl with lid, 1 teapot with lid, 2 candlesticks, 2 teacups with detachable saucers, 1 plate, 1 charger, 1 serving tray, and 1 platter with 3-pronged gold-tone stand.

8 of the pieces feature a romantic figural scene by famous Rococo artist, Jean-Honoré Fragonard.

During the mid 1700's, when King Louis XV's court was more licentious and pleasure-loving than ever, Fragonard would gain renown by capturing the era's rampant hedonism with his numerous "Lovers" scenes.

Every piece in the set boasts the gorgeous Fontanille and Marraud trademark lapis-blue glaze with brilliant reflective gold accents.

Each item in the set is marked on the bottom; the tea set (including the teapot, creamer, sugar bowl, and saucers) are marked "Made in Limoges France".

The underside of the teacups are not marked.

All of the other pieces (excluding the serving tray) feature a mark that reads, simply, "Limoges France".

The serving tray features two of Fontanille & Marraud's elegant hallmarks which reads "Porcelaine Artistique, F.M., Limoges France" and "Label de Qualite", respectively.

These marks date the set to circa 1979. A paper retailer's sticker is still attached to the underside.

Some of the pieces exhibit very minimal wear, though the set remains in absolutely outstanding vintage condition overall.

It is so difficult to find these miniature Limoges sets in any state of completion or in such great condition.

This one is an absolute collector's dream!
