This is a lovely vintage sterling on bronze dish by Silver Crest. It's a hefty little piece with great personality.
Silver Crest was the trademark used by the Smith Metal Arts Company of Buffalo; expert craftsman from the Heintz Art Metal Shop formed the new company in 1919, utilizing much of what they had learned, manufacturing incredible bronze items like this desk set.
Heintz Art Metal Shop was founded in 1906, in New York by Otto Heintz. They discontinued their works in 1935 when a new name, Silver Crest, was taken.
The dish is nice and simple with only three parallel lines engraved around the exterior. It is made of amber-colored bronze and shows a nice light patina from age.
You will find the company’s traditional hallmark stamped at the center of the dish on the interior.
The mark consists of a circular mark which reads “Genuine Silver Crest Bronze” with the “SMACo” (for Smith Metal Arts Company) logo stamped inside.
Finally, the number “46033” is stamped below the hallmark.
Though the dish exhibits some minor conditional wear, it remains in good vintage condition overall.
Silver Crest pieces are highly collectible and provide an excellent example of the timeless style of the Arts and Crafts Movement.
