Vintage Folk Art Hand Carved Wooden Rattlesnake Walking Stick
Carved from a single piece of nicely aged, honey-colored wood, the walking stick is incredibly sturdy and has a great substance.
A coiling rattlesnake winds around the cane; the tail is at the bottom while the head almost meets the top.
The rattlesnake is carved to resemble the highly venomous Southwestern diamondback, with a deeply incised diamond-shape pattern. The diamondback is renowned for having quick-acting, paralyzing venom.
This snake has seven segments in his rattle; every time a snake sheds its skin, a new rattle segment is added, so this fellow is quite old!
A nicely shaped, bulbous handle is carved at the top of the cane, giving it a really comfortable grip.
This cane has seen a good deal of wear over the years and features several cracks and age-spots. There is also a larger crack toward the bottom, but it has been expertly filled with wood-putty.
Overall, this cane remains in sturdy, useable condition and is a great example of American folk art.
