Antique Rare Tin Litho German Gnome/Elf Bank with Original Key

Just look at this fantastic antique bank. Today, these German-made lithographed banks are astonishingly collectable.

This wonderful little bank illustrates the most darling portrayal of money-collecting gnomes or elves on the front and sides.

This is likely a scene from German author Franz Hartmann’s 1895, tale entitled Unter den Gnomen im Untersberg which tells about the gnomes who guard golden treasures within the Unterberg mountain.

There is a colorful array of what appear to be hickory leaves on the top and front of the bank and other assorted flora along the bottom including berries, bluebells, and toadstools.

The gnome on the front of the bank is riding a magical key and catching falling coins in a large sack.

He wears a cute red and white spotted hat and shiny brown shoes. On the left side of the bank, a sitting gnome juggles coins while the gnome on the right side carries a stack of coins in his backpack.

As you can see, the details and colors are remarkably vivid.

There is a flap on the back that be locked or unlocked to release the coins inside; the bank comes with the original key.

Though there is some wear along the edges and a tiny bit on the front and back, this bank is in fantastic condition.
