An Absolute Treasure Rare Greist Co. Hand Blown Mercury Glass & Bronze Globe Lamp

This is elegant in its simplicity. It has all the right elements of glass, glow, shape, contrast, weight, imagery, and the substantial weight and substance from the bronze.

A happy little silvered yearling prances around the globe. It is rendered in wonderful detail. This gorgeous lamp would make the perfect addition to a horse-lover's collection.

Mercury glass is the common term for items of glass that have been blown "double-walled" and then treated with a silvering solution between the layers.

Though actual mercury was often used in pieces like this, it was never used to create pieces of tableware.

Incredibly, the globe goes from reflective dark brown when off, to a sensational glowing gold when on.

The black base is solid bronze and covered with a dramatic black finish. Some of the finish has begun to wear slightly and the shiny bronze can be seen on some edges.

Another lovely touch is the Bakelite knob at the back of the base that still works wonderfully well.

There is an embossed sticker on the underside of the base that reads "Genuine Greist Product".

The pony shows a slight amount of wear but the overall condition of the lamp is fantastic. The pony has some of its silvering worn off, revealing a lovely bronzy gold underneath. Its Art Deco appeal and golden glow make a must-have for a warm and cozy den, or well-placed foyer table.

It works perfectly, but we always recommend that vintage lamps be rewired for safety's sake.

This is a darling and beautiful piece. There is not a way to depict the beautiful illumination from the globe, but you will not be disappointed. Quite the opposite, you will be very impressed and it will be better than expected.
