This extraordinary vintage bronze sculptor is one in a series of twenty by talented American artist Bob Barlow.
Barlow claims both Montana and Wyoming as his main residences. His works, which include paintings and sculpture, draw a great deal of inspiration from the American West.
This sculpture depicts a fierce and wily wolf in rich, substantial bronze. Departing from realist tradition, the wolf is formed in a hand-hewn, textural style.
There are several maker's marks carved into the base of the work; the first reads "©Robert Barlow". You will also find marks reading "16/20" (the number in the series) and "'72" (for 1972, the date of the piece's production).
As you can see, the bronze figure is affixed to a stepped wooden base.
With only a tiny bit of fading to the wooden base, the figure is in excellent vintage condition. This piece is a picture-perfect example of both Bob Barlow's style as well as a storied tradition of Western-American art.
It has fabulous patina on such an iconic sculptural image.
