Shall We Dance- Sterling Silver Wahl-Eversharp Dance Pencil with Lavalier
When going to a dance, the young ladies of yesteryear would carry a dance card and pencil; they would write the names of each man that would ask her to dance, thereby prompting the phrase "my dance card is full."
Both the darling pen and the chain from which it hangs are rendered in opulent sterling silver.
The chain is a lavalier style; the two strands culminate at a small three-petaled component where a single chain suspends the pencil.
There are several decorative "bars" alternating between the sections of links, making the chain charmingly unique. It ends with a simple spring-ring clasp.
The pencil features a number of impressed inscriptions as well as a stamped collar featuring a motif of foliate scrolls. A post-manufacture engraving on the body reads "E.C.G."
Hallmarks around the neck of the pencil read "Wahl Eversharp, Sterling, Made in U.S.A."
Although the sterling shows expected surface wear and very minor patination, this beautiful and unique pencil and chain remain in great vintage condition.
Obviously, the pencil will polish to a high shine, but we leave that to the owner's preference.
This is a sweet and romantic collectible and would make a great gift for someone special.
