We love this darling piece. The "laughing Kookaburra" image is so unusual to find on a brooch, it makes us smile.
This sweet little Kookaburra is sitting on a branch of the Golden Wattle Acacia pycnantha. The "Wattle" is the floral emblem of Australia
This remarkable antique brooch features a beautifully hand-painted porcelain center with a lustrous 9 karat gold frame.
As you can see, the large porcelain piece at the center features the masterfully-painted likeness of an Australian Kookaburra.
Kookaburras are a kingfisher species native to Australia and are best known for their unmistakable call which some say sounds like human laughter.
In fact, the bird pictured on this lovely brooch is called the "Laughing Kookaburra".
They are typically seen with little brown spots and a blue streak on each wing.
Here, the kookaburra sits on a tree limb and is neighbored by brightly colored yellow flowers and mossy-green leaves.
The frame that embraces the centerpiece is rendered in 9 karat gold, and has been professionally tested.
You will find an impressed mark on the reverse which reads "9ct".
Finally, an old fashioned "C"-style clasp will allow you to wear the piece as a brooch while a small loop gives you the option to wear it as a necklace.
With barely any wear and only a small chip to the obverse-side of the porcelain, this wonderfully unique piece remains in very good antique condition.
