John Walsh Walsh Signed and Hallmarked Sterling and Guilloche Perfume Bottle

This is a really exquisite vintage atomizer from the renowned Glass Company, Walsh.

John "Walsh" Walsh is not a typo. He claimed that his strange name came about because the sponsors at his baptism were rather nervous and instead of saying just the Christian name John, said John Walsh, which made him John Walsh Walsh. However, church registers of the period do not support his story.

An established glass factory was purchased by John Walsh Walsh in 1850. From there, the company produced inimitable pieces of masterfully engraved glass.

John Walsh Walsh died in 1864. His daughter purchased the company and continued its successful operation. The company closed in 1951 as a result of the challenges in new labor regulations after WWII.

This bottle features a pattern of big daisies and surrounding leaves; the interior of each daisy has been artfully textured using a dazzling cross-hatching technique.

This pattern, as well as the acid mark reading "Walsh England" on the bottom of the bottle, assure us of the quality and authenticity of the piece.

The remarkable lid is made from exquisite sterling silver (.925). It boasts a guilloche enameled top in the most stunning shade of French blue.

The atomizer no longer compresses, but it is in otherwise good condition.

A number of hallmarks are clearly visible on the collar, including a small shield containing several symbols; this mark is indicative of Charles S. Green, a renowned British silver company established in 1905.

There is a notable patina present on small areas of the silver, but we leave the polishing to the owner so they can polish to their individual preference.

This is a beautiful bottle with wonderful design. It is feminine with a lot of substance and weight and the enameled top against the sterling completes the overall aesthetic.

Measurements: 4 ¼" tall, base measures 8 ¼" in circumference, top measures 5" at largest circumference, atomizing nozzle is 1" tall from topper and extends 1 1/8", base diameter is 1 ¾"
