Vintage "Crier" Thumbelina with Working Wiggle Mechanism
Originally made in the 1960’s and 70’s the dolls were a huge hit, due to their ability to “move”.
A plastic knob on Thumbelina’s back can be wound up and as it winds down the doll’s head moves around in a very lifelike way.
Her “crier” works perfectly well; this makes a squeaky, baby-like noise when she is tipped over. There are two holes in her ears that help the sound to emanate.
Her head, arms and legs are stiff vinyl, though the body (where the turning mechanism is housed) is soft. Her outfit is not original but adorable nonetheless with a sweet, colorful pattern of green and red berries. The pants are cuffed and ankle length and simply pull on; the top has a sweet Peter Pan collar and closes with two little buttons.
The knob that protrudes from the doll’s back bears several marks which read “Ideal Toy Corp.” and “U.S. Pat. No. 3,029,552”.
This baby’s hair is rooted to her scalp and styled into a sweet pixie-cut. Her facial features are painted. The face shows a teeny bit of wear but remains in great condition overall. Her right elbow also shows a couple of light yellowed spots.
Overall, this charming little girl remains in fantastic near-mint condition.
