This antique African pendant is a curious object. It's made of solid brass and takes a very interesting shape. This is not a jewelry item; rather a decorative item.
We know that certain African tribes would hang objects like this over their doorways for symbolic, superstitious, or religious reasons.
As you can see, a stylized monkey juts out from the pendant and seems to hold his hands on his knees. His ears, face and lips give his face a great deal of character.
The piece has been made using the lost-wax process. This and the wonderful verdigris patina give a mysterious and "time enhanced" appeal.
A loop at the top of the main shape allows it to be hung on a wall or doorway.
There is a rich patina and spots of green verdigris covering the pendant, though it remains in good antique condition overall.
Perfect for the collector of rare and mysterious objects, we know this antique pendant will work perfectly as a display piece.
