We are thrilled to offer this incredibly stylish matching coat and dress set from none other than the inimitable I. Magnin.
I. Magnin was founded in 1876 and became one the top luxury goods store in America.
Their heydays were in the late 1930's to the 1940's.
When famed designer Christian Dior paid a visit from Paris, he toured the Union Square (California) store, which had already earned the nickname "White Marble Palace", and said "Magnifique!"
The word would later be turned into a high compliment.
The family-owned I. Magnin was sold in 1944, and became buried in mergers and acquisitions, but the original family store was already long gone. The name was finally retired in 1989.
As you can see, this set is the absolute picture of timeless elegance.
Meticulously hand-made from high-quality winter-white wool, both coat and dress are something akin to a masterpiece.
The double-breasted coat is approximately knee-length and has stylish three-quarter length sleeves.
The collarless style of the jacket matches the sleek grace of the dress perfectly.
All 8 buttons on the front of the jacket are original and secure, as are the buttons above the single vent on the back.
The jacket is completely lined with luxurious, creamy-white silk.
You will find the original manufacturer's tag at the neck which reads "I. Magnin & Co." as well as an "International Ladies Garment Workers Union" tag near the right sleeve.
The elegant shift-style dress is impeccably crafted and has a truly regal appeal.
This dress looks like it came right out of Grace Kelly or Audrey Hepburn's closet.
A perfect example of a shift dress, the garment is sleeveless and collarless and falls to the knee.
A simple, vertical seam travels the full length of the front of the dress while a seam on each side travels from hips to bust.
There are two short seams on either side of the zipper on the reverse of the dress. The zipper extends from the neck to approximately mid-waist.
A simple hook-and-eye closure above the zipper keeps the neckline smooth and securely closed.
The dress is lined with the same divine silk fabric that can be found on the interior of the jacket.
Both dress and jacket remain in absolutely outstanding vintage condition, exhibiting only the slightest amount of wear on the buttons.
It is no exaggeration to say that this ensemble is the stuff of movie-stars.
Elegant and impeccably tailored, this set is nothing less than timeless.
