Classic Lilly Daché "Dachettes" Turban with Blue, Green, Fuschia, and Purple
Shortly after opening her New York City millinery in 1923, Lilly Daché would be designing hats and accessories for the likes of Marlene Dietrich and Audrey Hepburn.
Lilly had such a devoted following that after her death in 1968, her most faithful follower, the glamorous actress Loretta Young, bought all of her remaining hats.
Each of the hat's parallel bands of color is bordered by bold, metallic bullion trim. "Bullion" embroidery, as it is often called, is characterized by the use of thick metallic thread.
These are further accented by pink, teal and purple faceted plastic beads.
You can see the stiff Royal-blue netting inside that gives the hat its wonderful shape. The inner-band is lined with a narrow ribbon of indigo grosgrain.
Inside, you will find the original designer's satin label which reads "'Dachettes' Designed by Lilly Daché".
There is a tiny label behind the larger one that reads "UNION Made EO 808906 In U.S.A."
While the interior and exterior show the slightest amount of age-appropriate wear, this fabulously unique hat remains in outstanding vintage condition.
This hat would make the perfect gift, but would look just as good in your own private collection.
