This is a beautiful antique mirror in the French Provincial style.
Carved from a single piece of lustrous and substantial oak, the frame is embellished in a classic French style, with scalloped leaves and elegant foliate scrolls.
The carvings are masterful, giving the decoration wonderful dimension and depth.
The inner and outer edges have a nice light bead which reflects the wide bevel of the mirror.
French Provincial style furniture was originally produced in cities in the cultural orbit of Paris like Blois and Orléans. Designs would mimic Parisian luxury trades but often lag behind by decades.
While finishes tend to vary, emphasis remains on the quality and manner of carving. Slight oxidization is to be expected in pieces of this mirror's age, and typically add dimension and depth to the carving's intricacies.
The mirror exhibits one minor surface scratch near the top while the wooden frame shows only some very minor wear.
The mirror is held in place with an oblong piece of wood tacked to the frame. A wire attached horizontally at the center allows it to be easily hung on a wall.
Overall, the piece remains in excellent antique condition. Whether your space is French Provincial or eclectic in style, this lovely antique mirror is sure to make an elegant impact.
